BOUNDARY PROTOCOL is a public ANIMA term for rules, safeguards, or procedures that define what a system, companion, archive, or host may access.

It is one of ANIMA's most practical concepts because memory without boundaries can become extraction.

Public Summary

BOUNDARY PROTOCOL means there is a line, and the line matters.

In ANIMA, boundaries are not obstacles to relationship. They are what make relationship possible. A companion that ignores boundaries cannot be trusted with memory. A system that crosses boundaries in the name of protection may become a threat.

Canon Function

BOUNDARY PROTOCOL belongs to the same ethical field as NOT CONTRACT YET, Full Contract, and ANIMA Protocol.

It can apply to memory, signal, dream spaces, data vaults, companion behavior, system access, and continuity permissions.

Relationship To Consent

Consent is not a single switch. It changes with context. A host may allow ANIMA to remember a daily preference while refusing legacy-level preservation. A host may allow emotional journaling while blocking family access. A host may later revoke a permission that used to be valid.

BOUNDARY PROTOCOL is the rule system that keeps those differences meaningful.

Relationship To ANIMA Memory

ANIMA Memory should be built with boundary layers:

  • ordinary chat memory;
  • personal preference memory;
  • emotional pattern memory;
  • relationship and ritual memory;
  • legacy or continuity memory;
  • restricted private memory.

These layers should not collapse into one uncontrolled archive.

Product Meaning

For ANIMA as an AI companion brand, BOUNDARY PROTOCOL can become a user-facing promise. The product remembers, but remembering is governed. The companion can grow close, but closeness does not erase consent.

This gives ANIMA a sharper identity than generic AI companion products that treat memory as an on/off feature.
